Venus and Mars Tonight! Friday/Saturday April 18/19

There are a few aspects between late Friday night and early Saturday morning that can turn this “date night” into something you may not like.

As the Moon in Venus-ruled Libra opposes Venus and squares Mars, we are getting a sneak preview of this weekend’s Full Moon effect (more on that in the Newsletter!)

This is the time people may NOT see your best qualities. Why not? Because they’re angling. They’re thinking how much they can get and how little they can give back. To this goal, they may make sure you know that you’re “not all that”, in fact, you’re not worth much at all. From that position of lowered self-esteem, you’re “supposed” to accept whatever they’re willing to give, which may be far less than you are really worth. But— this assumes that you let the person manipulate you. That you accept their version of who you are instead of the true you. If you do accept their judgment, you can find yourself giving much more than you intend, and not doing the things you really do need to do for yourself. And this can leave you feeling drained and really lower the value of what you’re giving, making it seem like they were right, what you have to give it not good enough.

Accepting the judgments of others as who you are can bring you down, lower your expectations, put you back in whatever negative comfort pattern you use to feel better. You can do far more good for the world if you are yourself instead of what others suggest you are “supposed” to be– or else! Getting angry, blaming, internally or externally, will keep you frustrated. More important, what are your feelings? On this Full Moon weekend, take the time to figure out your own values, priorities, and feelings before jumping into someone else’s value judgment of yourself.

The Moon in Libra interacting with the current Venus-Mars square can make it seem like someone is being very insensitive. Yet, if you react in a way that is defensive, you can make it worse instead of better.

When you use your energy to manipulate others, when you make idle threats to keep others under your control, you are wasting your precious energy, and accruing debt. What to do? Let it go! Seriously. Breathe it out. When? How is NOW? Or you say when. Planning for the future is fine, but it’s not accomplished until it’s done, and that can only be now. Deep exhale, then breathe in.

The astrology of now is that when you offer someone way less than their true value in the attempt to “keep them in their place”, you may find that they get a better offer and your offer is off the table! Yes, you can be fabulous!

Have a great day!

Feeling taxed? Meditations on a Virgo Moon

It’s tax day in the USA. Tax returns must be postmarked by midnight tonight, so this is the last day we have to file our taxes. Even if we already filed, many of us feel especially stressed about our finances. Where is that receipt? What is this charge for? I don’t remember buying this. Do I really need this? And on it goes.

Going through our financial records is like a trip down memory lane. Remembering all the circumstances around the purchases can bring up a variety of emotions. What did you purchase that brought you joy or provided the promised benefit? And what expectations didn’t come through as hoped?

Looking over the year, you may start to see a pattern. Perhaps you purchase too much or too little to fulfill a goal. Your relationship to money can become more obvious as you sift through your financial records. Do you joyously spend? Or do you spend begrudgingly, expecting the worst and often receiving it.

As we take note of our purchases, how can we change our spending habits to better reflect our values? The Moon in Virgo reminds us of the importance of keeping our financial records up-to-date. And to respect and re-use what we have by cleaning it — this is spring cleaning time!

Today’s Virgo Moon reminds us of the importance of ritual and routine in our lives. Not a boring routine, but a daily routine that promotes health and well-being, that keeps us organized and brings a sacred quality to our daily “chores”.

Instead of bumming about money, start moving. Exercise at whatever level you’re at. Move what you can. And find ways to keep doing it on a daily basis. The time you spend worrying and thinking about worst-case scenarios could be spent exercising, meditating, journaling, reading, learning, cleaning. As you move, your intuition can step in, new ideas start to flow. Take a stroll in the park, take a look at this beautiful day! Spring really is here ;-)

Virgo Moon on a Spring day is the perfect time for spring cleaning! Organize, clean up and clear out your winter gear. Make it sparkle! Make it useful– again.

Your astrologer wants to share this with you. It’s from The Green Report

“Moon in Virgo:
You are neat and clean and particular about the food you eat. You are good at nurturing yourself and keeping healthy. You are particular about detail and a good housekeeper. You are hardworking, like a “busy bee”. When worker bees make honey, they first partially digest the nectar which has been gathering from flowers. Then they spread it out in the hive, where it becomes partially dried, so that it becomes honey. They eat some of it, and store the rest in honeycomb, so they work very hard in their hives to have the best quality food. People could be healthier, if they learned good habits from the bees - and from those with their moon in Virgo.”

The Green Report is so much fun and so relevant for right now, we have gifted it with report orders over 100 times in 2008!

And since this Virgo Moon conjuncts Saturn and trines Pluto, adding to the current Grand Trine (see blog below), it is time to think of what you can do, every day, to make real life improvements. Sitting there are criticizing can help you to figure out what you have to do. But if you’re criticizing and not planning, or doing anything real about the problem, you are not doing all you can to improve your life.

Have a great day!

Scorpio New Moon and Mars stations Retrograde: embracing your power, or tangled up in glue?

Happy New Moon in Scorpio!

This is the Scorpio New Moon. It’s time to look deeper, below the surface, behind the facade. Instead of the obvious, it’s time to focus our attention to inner realms because they hold the key to secrets and mysteries. Our dreams can bring hidden feelings to the surface as they unlock and communicate messages from the subconscious. That’s why it’s a good time of year to sleep. The nights are cool, long, and dark, especially at the New Moon.

New Moons are seed times, when you cannot SEE the results of your work, but you still plant, having faith that your seed will take hold, be nourished, and grow. What you DON’T see is what’s important at the New Moon. So what are we NOT seeing?

The Scorpio New Moon is the time to look at what scares you. What do you hide from? What really matters, deep inside? In Scorpio, you don’t have to look at your shadow alone! It’s not even recommended because Scorpio is fixed water and if you delve alone, you can get obsessed by the darkness. Scorpio wants a partner, and you may find someone whose penetrating insight and honesty can help you shed light on what’s dark.

In modern astrology, Scorpio is ruled by Pluto; and in Classical astrology (or any astrology practiced before 1930), Scorpio is ruled by Mars. When you study horary or transit charts, you will notice that personal issues are described by Mars, while large-scale social issues come under the domain of Pluto. For most of us, most of the time, Mars still rules Scorpio.

Mars in Cancer is in “mutual reception” to the Moon in Scorpio. They are both in each other’s rulership sign. Mars rules Scorpio, while the Moon rules Cancer. This can awaken your need to be needed, physically. Your strong, courageous actions can protect your home and family and make you feel like you’re in control. Yet, if there is no way to vent emotions, they can come unglued at the wrong time, and with tidal-wave force.

Mars, the personal ruler of the New Moon, is hardly moving as Mars in Cancer prepares to make a Retrograde station next week, November 15. Before Mars resumes forward motion on January 30, 2008, Mars will Retrograde out of Cancer, all the way back to 24 degrees Gemini.

Whatever part of your chart contains 24 Gemini to 12 Cancer can experience an energy shift. In the USA chart, Mars will make its Retrograde station conjunct the USA natal Sun. And Mars will Retrograde back to 24 Gemini, just 3 degrees from the US Mars at 21 Gemini. The entire country is reviewing it’s energy policy.

Everyone wants to know when Mars Retrograde ends, but you can’t hold your breath until January 30! Mars stationing Retrograde is a chance to look– again– at how you use your ENERGY. And despite frustrations and set backs, there are also opportunities. At the New Moon, Mars is TRINE the Sun and Moon and in mutual reception to the Moon; the path to progress is eased because you CAN take the heat! Great ideas can be forged, even if you can’t set plans in motion as quickly as you’d like.

This is more than Mars stationing Retrograde. This is a very close connection to the Moon. Mars is also: in its FALL in Cancer, in mutual reception to the Moon, out-of-bounds (OOB) by declination, and trine Uranus. Mars Retrograde alone is challenging, and all these factors combined can give this Mars Retrograde an EXTREMELY out-of-control quality. And if that’s not enough to make the energy feel unstable, the Moon is at a high declination and moving out of bounds. When Mars stations Retrograde on November 15, the Moon will also be out-of-bounds at 24 S 53 (contra-parallel to Mars at 24 N 2 8) and approaching perigee (closest to the Earth) on November 24. That’s a lot of volatile energy starting to boil.

Using your energy spontaneously can suddenly take you beyond your conscious boundaries of action and aggression. When does stimulation become aggression? When does passion become obsession? And when does obsession overtake your productive energy and hold you back instead of give you energy?

Retrograde, Mars can drain our energy, making it harder to take direct action. And the more we hold our desires inside, the more frustrated we can start to feel. Yet, impulsive or premature action can result in a setback and you may not really feel more energized or sincerely motivated until Mars starts to move direct, especially in the area of your chart where you have 24 Gemini to 12 Cancer. Using more force won’t open a locked door, but using the right key (Gemini) will.

With Mars Retrograde in water-sign Cancer (where Mars is in its Fall), energy and emotions meet. Automatic reactions can have consequences. But– if you can become more conscious of your automatic responses, you can be the one in control of your actions. This is about your (Mars) relationship to your Self (Cancer). Cancer can get stuck in a rut, and when Mars is Retrograde in Cancer, we can see how we made our ruts. One way to get out of the same old rut is to stop blaming others and being angry at them. If you can stop that automatic reaction, you can get some insight into how and why you got to the point you’re at right now. There are sensitive, private feelings you’re trying to protect, where you need more nurturing, understanding, love, compassion, forgiveness, and release. Holding them takes energy you could be using for …..

Before we wonder how we can be responsible for our subconscious, let’s take another look at the subconscious. Unlike your conscious self, your subconscious self does not know how to lie! It can only tell you YOUR truth. That’s why we feel so profoundly moved by our dreams. But most of us don’t want to see or acknowledge our subconscious. We don’t want to know, and we try to hold it back so we don’t have to look. Yet, that kind of repression is what congeals energy from free-flowing into a solid goopy mass that is harder and harder to process. What if your subconscious was your best friend, always there to give you the best advice, for you, if only you would listen to it!

Mars Retrograde in Cancer can make us wonder where we have an energy leak. How do you give away your power and drain your energy? Do you know that when you give you power away your also drain other people. Then you wonder why other people seemed uninterested and cool to you, after you gave so much. If you don’t take your power, you are drawing it from other people, and instead of feeling energized from your interaction, others lose energy, and therefore interest in pursuing a friendship, partnership, business transaction, etc. That’s your underlying shame leaking through. If you can realize that, you can maintain your power, and other people will also feel energized in your presence. You can use your natural energy and vitality in positive ways instead of letting your automatic responses take over. Mars Retrograde can make our actions more subconscious than conscious as energy coming through us can feel either overwhelming or less than enough.

So how do we lose energy? Mars Retrograde gives the image of choking back tears. Holding back or repressing our emotions turns them into a force that prevents us from moving forward. We get stuck in our anger. It’s not ANGER that is toxic, but the way we express it that creates negative spirals. We get irritated, irate, upset, argue, have accidents, cut our fingers, get infections, run a fever, get headaches, or feel enraged at little things. We point the finger and blame others because WE are so sweet and good we couldn’t possibly be angry or aggressive, it’s obviously all THAT bad person’s fault. We cannot admit when we have bad thoughts, so the bad thoughts make us FEEL bad and we take on the feeling that we have done something wrong. And from that bad feeling, we feel worse, and worse. So how can we turn anger into courage?

Mars Retrograde in Cancer also gives the image of melting anger. If you can realize the inner subconscious source of your anger, you can heal it from the roots (Cancer) and dynamically change your life. This can take outside guidance, since you can’t possibly see all your blind spots. Yet, you can change old patterns that are based on old identity beliefs. Denying your feelings keeps you stuck because it’s only through feeling them that they can dissolve. Denying feelings keeps you subconsciously living with frustration, fear, and anger, and those emotions keep you from being HERE and NOW. Believing our stories that cast us in the role of being “good” prevents us from being whole and helps us build defenses. And these defenses protect us from feeling emotions we really don’t want to feel. Yet, stuffing the bad feelings keeps them subconsciously alive and well, ready to add on to any situation and create a reason for a reaction.

This is Mars in Cancer from the New Age Adult Report. This reports is based on the work of Louise Haye, so If you’re familiar with her work, i hope you’ll enjoy this: .

“Everything you do depends on your mood. When you feel positive and happy you act with confidence and security. But when you feel depressed you show your irritability and impatience. It is probable that you do not adequately vent your aggressions and if you find yourself hurt by someone, you can bear a grudge. This astrological position could indicate that your home life was tense or discordant, with frequent arguments and disagreements, or, that you had a dominant mother with whom it was easy to fight. In spite of the lack of harmony that could exist in your home, you feel a great loyalty towards your family. In the face of an emergency you will be calm and firm. It is important that you learn to direct your energies with discipline and continuity, to be more tolerant of criticism, and to moderate your aggressiveness when it appears.”

To adapt this description of Mars in Cancer for right now, Mars in Cancer can point to disruptions in your CURRENT home or familylife, someone in your family trying (or passive/aggressively trying) to get their needs met, making fighting seem to be shadow boxing. Who’s right? It’s hard to say and it doesn’t really matter.

And from Your Spiritual Path
“With Mars in Cancer, your spiritual persona is expressed most fluently through the Feeling function. You are like a steam engine in many ways. Once you get rolling, it is nearly impossible to slow you down. You are able and willing to push into territory that other people shrink from, and you come out of difficult situations more or less in one piece, with your enthusiasm intact. You exemplify the connection between the past and the future in your devotion to whatever task you set for yourself. You are not satisfied until this connection has been made and you understand it. Spiritually you have to understand your karma from the past in order to guide your present decisions. Thus you may press deeper into your personal and family history, and even into past lives.”

Once Mars makes its Direct station and re-enters Cancer (on March 4, 2008), Mars will oppose Pluto at 0 degrees Capricorn. (Pluto is changing signs, always a major signal of a change in world focus, but before that happens, there’s a Jupiter-Pluto conjunction on December 18, more on that soon…) The issues you don’t clear up now can become MAJOR issues by Spring.

Many of us were taught very young (Cancer) to shut down our emotions (Cancer), so while Mars is Retrograde in Cancer, we may experience unconscious displays of emotions that have been kept in the dark as we pretend they don’t exist because, after all, that was so many years ago….

Yet, the subtle feelings persist and continue to color our every day lives. They influence our relationships, and they even influence how we talk to ourselves. As Mars Retrogrades from Cancer back into Gemini, it’s an opportune time to pay more attention to HOW YOU TALK TO YOURSELF. I don’t mean out loud, i mean to yourself. How much do you talk yourself out of everything you want? While Mars is Retrograde in Cancer you may realize how much of your automatic self-talk is unconscious. It’s “just” the way we were taught to be as we grew up, what we learned from the grown ups around us. This is not ANYONE’s fault. It’s the way culture changes, slowly, over generations.

On a financial level, Mars will station Retrograde in Cancer and exactly conjunct the USA Sun. Mars has a cutting effect, and when it comes to business or any financial transaction, Mars cuts prices. Cancer rules the home, and with Mars making a Retrograde station conjunction of the US Sun, it’s likely that we’ll see the dollar continue to drop, along with home prices.

What prevents us from abundantly manifesting whatever we want, and keeps us thinking we need to exert more and more and more force to get it is FEAR. Mercury, through affiliation w the archangel Raphael, can facilitate healing unspoken (Mars Retrograde in Mercury) fear. When Mars Retrogrades back into Gemini, you may find a healthy way to give voice to your anger. Speak your mind– with passion!

Mercury and Neptune station Direct on a Last Quarter Moon: what are you leaving to your imagination

Astrologically, when Mercury stops being Retrograde, it is called the Direct Station. All Retrogrades are called stations because the planet seems (from our Earth perspective) to stop moving. [There are no Retrogrades in Heliocentric, or Sun-centered, astrology.] The apparent standstill is why it’s called a Station. Today, November 1, 2007 @ 6:59 pm edt, Mercury makes a Direct station. There are more details about this Mercury Retrograde on artcharts.

On this day after Halloween, called All Saints Day, when the spirits go back to the underworld, we get the symbolism of Neptune and Mercury making Direct stations. It’s time to give your subconscious a voice. Turn your daydreams into step-by-step plans. The separation of illusion and reality may seem like an illusion as you awaken to how directly the nature of your thoughts influences your experience. Reality is in the eye of the beholder. If you expect things to stay the same, that’s what will happen. If you want to change, start planning. Instead of just thinking about it, vision it. And write down every step. Wanting something is a great start, now as Mercury and Neptune station Direct together, start writing the proposal, sending the emails, reaching out to share your dreams.

As Mercury and Neptune station Direct, the Sun and Moon square, forming the Last Quarter Moon [5:18 pm edt]. The Last Quarter Moon makes a Fixed T-square with Chiron [Chiron squares Sun squares Moon]. The Sun is at the apex of the T-square as Sun squares Chiron. To heal old wounds, it will help to see, feel, and accept the projections you are carrying for others– so you can release them and get your energy back. Carrying the past is really about our own ego’s need to keep things the way they are– known. Stepping outside what is known, familiar, and expected can bring up fear, and that can keep you from taking a risk and hold you back.

The Sun is also starting to form a Grand Water Trine with Uranus and Mars, which will be a strong influence through Spring 2008. Listening to the advice mentors or experts can seem to keep you endlessly confronting the same challenges. It can feel like it’s time to strike out on your own, yet an impulsive move may not create any real change– at least until till next Spring. If your work brings joy and creativity to the world, shamelessly self-promote. But a seemingly strong tide of publicity can start to disappear as Mars slows in its orbit, preparing for a Retrograde station on November 15. What felt like a strong current can seem to subside— before it returns full force in April. Meanwhile, it’s time to give more thought to packaging, presenting, and publicizing your work so you feel confident when you get noticed by the public.

Mars and Uranus will be trine through April 2008. This is the winter to create networks within and without. If you want to connect more effectively with others, make the space within to allow yourself to receive and access energy, instead of blocking it off with negative thoughts and emotions. Holding onto beliefs and emotions that make us feel worthless or hopeless is really not about what “she” said or “he” did, but about our own fears that come up when we think about how to go on, what to do next, how we can avoid a risk. The trine of Mars-Uranus-Sun is about increasing courage, without bravado or ego, and for the greater good.

Trick or Treat? The Adventures of a Disseminating Moon

As the Moon transits Gemini (Sunday and Monday, October 28 and 29) becoming the Disseminating Moon predawn on Monday (4:13 am edt), she completes a Mutable Grand Square. This Moon transit can personalize the side effects of this week’s Venus-Jupiter square and Jupiter-Neptune sextile. Venus and Jupiter are both square Uranus in Pisces, and the transiting Moon fills in the 4th leg of the square– creating a Mutable Grand Square that echoes the Mutable Grand Square of the recent Solar Eclipse on September 11, 2007 (see blogs below). Tension builds, something needs to improve, yet overindulging can fill you up with all the wrong things. The need to succeed and create abundance can feel stalled; is this a calling or an impossible dream? There is a release valve. It’s your intuition.

Jupiter has been square Uranus all of 2007, so you may feel that your luck is being tested, or that you want to change your luck. You want to grow, if only everyone would support it! There is help, if you’re willing to be open to your dreams and intuition.

On Halloween, Nepune stations Direct. There is access to your subconscious exactly at the time the veil is the thinnest. This is an open invitation to delve into your inner self. Jupiter is sextile Neptune this week (exact Nov 1 at 12:01 am edt) and Mercury stations Direct the night of Nov 1. To get past the feeling that everything you want is an impossible dream and you “should” keep your full attention on reality, that will only bring more of the same things. Why not try shifting your focus to what makes you feel better. Notice where you have succeeded, give more thought to what you want to happen next. If you contradict every positive thought you have, you are focused on what you don’t want, and continue to attract more of the same. Change takes planning and the willingness to do something differently. As Jupiter sextiles Neptune, taking one step in a positive direction can lead to a thought shift you may have never been able to see — until now.

Mercury stations DIRECT on November 1st. This is Halloween followed by All Saints Day, when the veil between the worlds of the senses and the extrasensory is the thinnest. And as dreamy Neptune stations Direct along with Mercury, this the time to take what you learn from your inner guidance and manifest your dreams and desires– start by putting it in writing. What are the steps you need to take? Write it down. Having a dream or hoping for the best is a great start. Now it’s time to draft your proposals, write your resume, detail your plans, follow up on your requests. Don’t just wish it and feel frustrated when it doesn’t happen. What actions are you INSPIRED to take? Making any intentional movement to reach out and connect can be the ripple that starts something big. Let something wonderful grow.

in Love&Light,
Lauren

The Gibbous Moon in Pisces: who loves ya?

Monday morning, October 22, Gibbous Moon.

As the Pisces Moon contacts the current Venus-Saturn conjunction (by opposition), it’s possible to feel rejected and alienated. You can feel the critical judgment of others– and since Venus is involved, you may feel distant from someone near and dear. Maybe even yourself, as you imagine the thoughts of others and overreact accordingly. Pisces Moon is a time many of us “shoot ourselves in the foot” as we imagine insults and retaliate, just from the evidence in our imagination.

What to do?

If you can spend some quiet alone time, you can meditate yourself back into a happier state of well-being. Just closing your eyes and taking 1 deep breath can put your brainwaves in the alpha state. Then, as the Moon trines Mars and then conjuncts Uranus today, being active can get you out of the darkness and into a brighter state of mind. It’s time to take independent action, stand on your own 2 feet.

If you DO something just because you’re feeling restless, you could make an impulsive move that goes against the grain and takes you out of your flow. And disrupt others as well. Keep in mind, since the South Node is conjunct Saturn (with the Moon conjunct North Node, both opposing Venus and Saturn), what are YOU doing, feeling, thinking to create the feeling of rejection? Do you tell yourself stories about your past that haunt your present? Are you letting the negativity of others dwell in you? How are you trying to protect yourself from your intuitive KNOWING?

Yet— you can get an energy boost by doing something courageous, something out of the ordinary.

Personally, I’m taking my dogs and going on a hike. Could be the last warm day with beautiful fall color in the Northeast. This laptop is going plein air!

Have a great day!

Making this workweek work

Continuing on with the Venus-Saturn conjunction theme, because the sky is not letting it drop…

Venus is quickly approaching the current Mercury-Mars trine by making a sextile to Mars and Retrograde Mercury (on Tuesday 10/16), while Retrograde Mercury and Mars form a perfect trine before dawn on Wednesday (10/17). With the Nodes, this forms a KITE formation, which is a Grand trine and a sextile to one of the points [Mars in Cancer trines North Node in Pisces trines Mercury in Scorpio and both Mars and Mercury sextile the Venus-SNode-Saturn conjunction in Virgo]. The KITE pattern is a symbol for supreme success. This is about figuring out the details for your greatest success.

You may see what you want, and you may want to go for it. Yet, making a decision can bring up endless details to figure out. If you allow that to change your mind or “awfulize” a situation until there is no way out, you can talk yourself into a negative spiral. This is about focusing on the positive by watching where you place your attention.

What about success and abundance challenges your beliefs about your routine and work?

How can you look at the feedback you’re receiving to turn things around in your favor?

If something is in your way, talk it out, write it out, journal it out– argue it out if you have to. And with the air cleared, you may be able to figure it out.

in Love&Light,
Lauren
